Charity of the Month | Brain Tumour Research

This month we show our support for the fight against brain tumours by raising awareness of the national charity, Brain Tumour Research. In 2004, a group of charities came together to launch Brain Tumour Awareness Month with March becoming the official month for Brain Tumour Awareness. With their shared devotion in finding a cure for Brain tumours, the group became founding members of Brain Tumour Research.

Every March Brain Tumour Research provide a packed programme of activities to raise awareness of the charity and to raise vital funds to help with the fight against brain tumours.

On average, brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer however, only 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to the disease. Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase national investment in brain tumour research.

The charity provides a list of informational reads, support groups in the country, stories of hope, fundraising, and campaign ideas for individuals and family members affected by brain tumours. For Norfolk and Waveney, the local support group listed is Big C Cancer Charity. Located at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, NR4 7UY is the Big C Cancer Support and Information Centre.  In addition to support groups in person, Brain Tumour Research offer several online support groups for patients and families to attend.

The charity hosts numerous fundraising events throughout the year to raise vital funds including Wear A Hat Day, Thursday 28th March. Wear A Hat Day is Brain Tumour Research’s annual event which raises money to bring hope to brain tumour patients and their families. People all over the UK put on their favourite hat and wear it to work, school, with friends and family, or hold hat-themed events and donate to help find a cure for brain tumours. Why did we choose to support Brain Tumour Research?

The work Brain Tumour Research does to raise awareness and the passion they have in finding a cure for not just one but all types of brain tumours is amazing. The fact that UK investment in brain tumour research is only 1% is shocking, by supporting them this month, we are trying to do our bit in the fight against brain tumours.
